Ok so I was previewing Joseph Altuzarra's collections on his official website and I was struck with delight by his Spring/Summer 2010 line. I thought that maybe he was inspired by Filipino clothing because some resembled the traditional male attire of a barong and the baro at saya for the female. I also thought that some of the fashion incorporated a design inspired by a Filipino rattan chair. I don't know what you think, but I thought it was some great observations by moi ^_^ See for yourself and let me know what you think!

ALTUZARRA was born out of the desire to provide a contemporary and practical wardrobe for the modern professional woman. The ALTUZARRA identity lies somewhere between the legacy of French couture and New York's pulsating energy.

Joseph Altuzarra was born and raised in Paris, and after graduating high school, attended Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, where he completed a B.A. in Art and Art History, with a strong focus on fashion and architecture.

After university, Joseph Altuzarra headed to New York's vibrant fashion industry, where he was hired as a design intern at the Marc Jacobs studio. Joseph then joined the Proenza Schouler team as freelance designer. In October 2006, Riccardo Tisci recruited Joseph as design assistant for Givenchy, where he worked on the ready-to-wear collections, with particular emphasis on tailoring. It was during his time in Paris that Joseph Altuzarra decided to move back to New York and launch his own line.

So I recently rediscovered my love for baking and if I had more time I would bake everyone cupcakes and cheesecake all the time! Here are the goodies I made on Valentine's weekend...

Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese and butter-cream frosting...oh yeah and red sugar sprinkles on top for jazz ^_^

And here are my ginger cheesecake cups with lemon zest and white chocolate shavings on top! Oh and I guess whipped cream...it's just that the whipped cream kinda melted...boo :(

The British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead at the age of 40 in his London home.

His body was discovered at the property in Green Street, central London, shortly after 10am today. Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem has been scheduled but police said his death was not being treated as suspicious. They would not comment on reports he had killed himself.

A spokeswoman for McQueen said: "Mr McQueen was found dead this morning at his home. We're devastated and I hope you understand that out of respect to his family and his colleagues we're not going to be making any further statement."

The death comes days before the start of London fashion week and a month before the designer was to unveil his new collection at Paris fashion week.

New Purse!

Got a new purse today! It looks purple in the picture but it's more plum, it's leather and it's SEXY! HAH! My mom gets to use it first though and is taking it to her 2 week trip to the Philippines, then I get back. I warned her to be very careful with it and to NOT ever rest it on any floor! Anyway it's sooooo cute!

I left for a second to flip some eggrolls I was cooking for my sister and when I got back her cat Lili was nestled on it ^_^ She loves it too!

For lunch today my dad cooked crab in coconut milk,YUMMM! He added onions, garlic, jalapeno peppers and spinach and my family and I really enjoyed it!

One of things that I never used to appreciate about art when I was younger were any type of sculptures. Especially the marble ones chiseled into a naked Roman figure. After taking an art history course at my old school, Mt. Mary, I began to understand the art form, its history and story behind each piece and its artist. Many people are familiarized with Michelangelo and Donatello for their famed David sculptures, but Gian Lorenzo Bernini is the one that captured me the most. My favorite part about his work is the way he is able to chisel a block of marble and create magnificent draping effects. It's amazing!

AHHHH! ok ok...sorry I just fell off the face of the world there. It's been a long stressful semester at school and glad to say that I am back! Hopefully i keep most of my new years resolution this coming 2010, one of them being able to keep my blog running! I did have posts for the last 5 months that I just never got to putting up and again I apologize. So I will put those up as well.

Also I am leaving Milwaukee and Mt. Mary College :( I have had a great semester regardless of all the work and stress; it was all worth it!

It's been great but I am looking forward to moving to Madison and attending UW-MADISON!!! So I am nervous and excited about that!

Since end of June I have been lugging all my sewing and drawing materials from home to school, work and back home 4 sometimes 5 days a week (also riding and running after the very inconvenient public bus)...and have lost about 2 inches around my waist since. Everyday is stressful and always filled with dreadful fractions to the 32nd for measurements, cutting, sewing, seam ripping, hands turning into Smurf hands from carbon tracing paper, getting poked by pins at least 20 times in the 4 and a half hours class period(argh...)drawing nude Alice or Patrick in figure drawing for 3 and a half hours over and over day to day--it doesn't even faze me anymore. But all the work and stress will soon come to end this coming 30th of July!!!

After my pattern-making exam I am off to San Francisco for a weekend getaway to visit my best friend Abby! Also I am meeting my boyfriend Greg there that night who is flying from Minneapolis--whom BTW I have not seen for about a month! I am totally hoping for an awesome movie airport scene for our reunion (HAHA!) perhaps like the O'Hare scene with Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney from MBW-except of course I GET THE GUY ^_^ teehee!

Anyway, I am sooo busy for the next 3 days and will not even have time to pack so I did tonight.

I always over-pack and since I am not checking anything to avoid extra charges and fear or losing my luggage, I had to keep my packing to a freaking minimum...I don't know how I did it but I did. So San Fran here I come!

There was a Barbie anniversary fashion show held at the Mercedes fashion week back in spring where many well-known designers fabulously contributed to the affair. There are seriously so many which will be mentioned in the video below. But the best part are the shoes the models are wearing...they are all wearing the same custom made hot-pink Barbie colored open-toed heels designed by Christian Louboutin!!! That's probably more than the usual price of $600!!!

Watch the actual video for the fashion show but just to warn you there is a long and annoying intro in the beginning of Barbie montage...jeez. But again the fashion show itself is FANTABULOUS!!!

Okay I bought this book like back in October last year and just finally read it and finished like 2 weeks ago. I forgot to post it on here to tell you fashion lovers to pick it up because there are some damn great people they interview in this book. My favorites are Lauren Hutton, The Men on Proenza Schouler-Jack and Lazaro, Karl Lagerfeld and Francisco Costa. Oh and because like most ladies my age secretly LOVE THE OLSEN TWINS no matter what!

I had a great time at Rock the Garden 2009...ate a yummy burger with cheese and shredded beef embedded in it, a hotdog, $6.00 lemonade(?!?!?), got really sweaty, was barefoot on and off, swayed my body to the music, got kissed, hugged, took pictures of strangers, meet an awesome THE CURRENT-loving couple Brian and Carol, meet a guy named Max from Milwaukee and chatted him up, talked to some girls about where they got their photo booth pics, got free photo booth pics with Greg...2x(!!!)--I felt like Amelie ^_^, and I dunno...just had a lot of fun that day until i was exhausted by the night!

Greg finally took me to The Walker museum! I saw some amazing contemporary art with installations, sculptures, reliefs. Highlight works we saw were from artists Yoko Ono, Chuck Close, Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns and even Dada Art by Marcel DeChamp--I was freaking out! Unfortunately, I was not able to take any pictures of any art so i have none to show you... :( I wanted to take pictures at he gift shop because they had a lot of cool stuff there but Greg made fun of me about my obsessions with clicking my camera on everything so i didn't LOL. But we also saw The Rock The Garden being set-up in the back of the museum. So THANK YOU so much for taking me Greg ^_^

So i was reading one of my coffee table books--Influence by MK and Ashley Olsen and found the Proust Questionnaire in it that both of them filled out. It made me laugh and thought I would fill one out myself. Since July 1993, the back page of Vanity Fair has been devoted to the Proust Questionnaire, in which a noteworthy person answers a series of personal questions.
I think I am a noteworthy person...teehee ^_^

Michigan company Boxed Water is Better recently launched their product in their home state, and has since made a splash around the country. While most Americans buy bottled water (which are made with PET, a material that does contain recycled content), only fourteen percent of those bottles find themselves being recycled. Boxed water is not only more efficient to transport (two pallets of boxed water is equal to five truckloads of leftover plastic bottles to transport), but cuts down on carbon dioxide, which is emitted when destroying plastic bottles. While Boxed Water Is Better is only available in Michigan, the company is planning to expand, and with it will come an annual donation of twenty percent of their profits to water programs worldwide.

Apey and I came to visit our family in WB for easter and yesterday we made a yummy plantain dessert called turon! It's ripe plantains, rolled in brown sugar, topped with jackfruit, wrapped in eggroll wrapper, then pan fried in vegetable oil...YUMMM!!!

Ooopsies!

Went to MN for my break and I wish I would've taken more pictures of everything I did. Okay to make this faster...recap on the whole week I had no posts...

(from top left, clockwise) Greg and I made mushroom udon soup with homemade pork wontons and shrimp one night--also had napa cabbage, carrots, onions, oyster mushrooms, chicken broth, and salt and pepper to taste...and spicy stuff Greg put in to make it more YUMMY; me in an Irish princess crown and looking like I'm going to kiss that stripper pole--we rode a party bus for St. Patty's day and I had a beer before noon; went to uptown and had a wonderful walk and breakfast with Greg and I also got canvases and paints that day to keep me busy for the week while he worked, but not much progress eeep; went to a Missy Higgins concert and also saw Lenka and Justin Nozuka perform before her and it was great minus the achey feet issue; surprise beautiful daffodils for me and yummy spaghetti dinner from yes...him ^_^ teehee!

Okay...so I have been uber stressed out with a lot of things lately and have not been eating well because of it til today--made breaded haddock fillet and mushroom herb couscous, YUMMM!!! ^_^ It's been really hard for me lately and I have been worrying so much. I realized today that just because things are not as smooth as they can be doesn't mean that it should hinder me from enjoying other things in my life. I need to relax and really, compared to what other people are dealing with in their own lives today, i'm probably doing fine. Life is really too short to be worrying about everything. So starting NOW, I am going to try really hard to be more positive and just be happy. Actually I am happy. But no, seriously, I'm going to make sure that I squeeze back in the old things that i enjoyed doing.

I'm going to catch up on my reading, ride my bike around when it gets nicer, PAINTING & DRAWING, take pictures with my 8 year-old SLR (so sorry you have been collecting dust for so long), start sewing again and making my own clothes and making lots of time for friends! I've meet so many wonderful girls at school and I have yet to really hang out with any of them maybe one.
So...again, rule: DO THINGS THAT WILL MAKE ME HAPPY!

Today in my Fashion Experience class I was craving tea and really wanted to have a TEA PARTY! Majority of the girls in class were as excited as me and agreed that we should have one. I'm talkin' tea with scones, crumpets, cucumber sandwiches, fruit tarts and mini slices of cakes! Molly said said we should dress up but I dunno if everyone will go for that lol! Hmmm...but I think I will talk to our instructor Vicki to see if we can actually do this maybe the end of semester if not I will just have it at my apartment or else where! Teehee ^_^

Becoming Edvard Munch

I am possibly going to Chicago next weekend if my car is fixed by then to see the Edvard Munch exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago. I'm really excited about going, and if I'm not able to go then, I will for sure some other time because it runs til like end of April. If you want to come with me, just let me know! ^_^

Edvard Munch’s work has been frequently connected to his emotional pain and instability, as his iconic work The Scream suggests. However, when his art is considered in light of his personal diaries and letters and the writings of contemporary critics, a very different picture of the artist emerges. Contrary to the prevailing view, recent scholarship demonstrates that Munch was very much in control of his professional career, a savvy businessman keenly aware of how to manipulate the art market and shape popular opinion. Moreover, he built his art on specifically Norwegian pictorial traditions.

This rich exhibition brings together approximately 150 works, including 75 paintings and 75 works on paper by Munch and his peers, many rarely seen in the United States. According to my mom, this was during a company outing at the beach. I was the only she brought with her--I think my dad had something else going on and I dunno about my older sister Khristine's whereabouts. All I know is that it was my beach day with my mom. This is also going in my I-journal, because I LOVE...my little violet swimsuit with the marigold and red "V" design on the front...and the little ruffle on the bottom! Just adorable! I went to Madison for the weekend to visit my sister and my friend Shannon. I've really missed them and wish the weekend was longer and that it cold and snowy...
